The fire produced a thick cloud of smoke in the sky over the city.

Firefighters responded just after 12:45 p.m. Thursday to a report of the fire in the 3900 block of Beverly Drive.

Shortly after Beverly Hills firefighters arrived they requested help from the Waco department.

An older couple lives in the home, firefighters said.

The woman was home at the time the fire started, but the man was at work, firefighters said.

She escaped safely, but firefighters weren’t able to find the couple’s small dog.

“Nobody was hurt and everyone got out in time,” Beverly Hills Fire Chief Lance Leuschner said.

The fire was under control within about 30 minutes, but firefighters remained at the scene after 1:30 p.m. working to contain hot spots.

The cause is under investigation.
