Waco (October 9, 2013)--A Waco man was held Wednesday in the McLennan County Jail Wednesday charged in separate incidents of aggravated assault and indecent exposure.
Manuel Zavala, 34, was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $11,000, charged with one count of indecent exposure and one count of aggravated assault, according to online jail records.
Zavala was arrested Tuesday after Waco police detectives posted video of a man who pointed a handgun at a woman who was pumping gasoline at an area convenience store.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said officers were sent at around 1:40 p.m. on Sept. 28 to the Cefco Store on Gholson Road after the woman called to report that a man had pointed a gun at her.
Swanton said the woman told officers she was pumping gasoline in the store lot when a man driving a late model gold pickup truck pulled up and asked her for directions.
She told police the man pulled a small handgun and pointed it at her and threatened to shoot her if she moved.
The woman said another car pulled up and frightened the gunman, who got back into his pickup and left northbound on Gholson Road.
Investigators were able to get copies of surveillance video from the store and posted it on their Facebook page, which led viewers to call police and provide an identity of the suspect.
The assault victim later identified Zavala as her attacker during a line up, Swanton said.
Swanton said officers also learned Zavala is a registered sex offender.
The indecent exposure charge stems from an incident in Lacy Lakeview, but details weren’t immediately available Wednesday.
