Local Man Shoots Would-Be Burglar During Break-In Attempt

BELL COUNTY (February 17, 2014) A Bell County man foiled an attempted break-in early Monday when he opened fire on a man who kicked in the back door of his house and then scared off a second man who was trying to break in through the front door.

Bell County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched at around 2 a.m. Monday to the home at 615 Shaw Lane just south of Killeen after a caller reported that someone had cut power to the house and was trying to break in, Lt. Donnie Adams said.

When deputies and Killeen police arrived, they found a man in the front yard who had been shot in the arm, Adams said.

He was taken to Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

His injuries were not life-threatening, Adams said.

Investigators determined that one of the residents, Elijah Michael Wong, 22, was awakened by family members who told him that someone was trying to break in.

The power was cut off as Wong walked to the kitchen and then someone kicked in the back door, Adams said.

Wong fired two shots at that man, Adams said.

The second man, who was at the front door, fled when Wong approached, Adams said.

Authorities later located the second man and were interviewing him, Adams said.

No further details were immediately released.
