MARLIN (December 4, 2012)—Marlin Mayor Elizabeth Nelson has demanded an investigation after dozens of dog carcasses were found illegally dumped on city property.
Residents found the carcasses near City Park and Anderson later inspected the site, which she said is an area used by public works employees to dispose of landscaping debris.
She said she could not provide an accurate count of the carcasses.
She said investigators were looking into allegations that city employees killed the dogs, but said residents may have been illegally dumping the remains of pets.
The remains were in plastic trash bags, but bones were also scattered around the site, suggesting that it had been used as a dumping ground for dead animals for some time.
Stray dogs are a serious problem in Marlin.
