James Luke Doty, 39, was ordered held on a $5,000 bond charged with assault on a public servant, the online McLennan County Jail log said.

Sherry Elaine Doty, 28, was facing a charge of interfering with public duties.

Her bond had not been set Friday morning.

The police officer was struck in the face Thursday afternoon as he was trying to subdue a suspect in South Waco.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said the officer did not require medical attention.

The officer, whose name wasn’t released, responded at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday after a resident reported that a man was walking around and behaving strangely in the 1700 block of Cleveland Avenue

The caller said the man threw a beer bottle at a house in the 900 block of South 17th Street.

When the officer tried to talk with the man to calm him down, the man hit him in the face, police said.

Then as the officer tried to take the man into custody, a woman joined the struggle and tried to pull him off of the suspect, police said.

Both the man and the woman were arrested after other officers arrived.
