Local Officer Pulls Over Stolen Golf Cart; One Teen Arrested, One Escapes

TEMPLE (August 29, 2012)—One teenager was facing charges Wednesday in Temple and police were looking for a second after the two were caught in a stolen golf cart with $500 worth of clothing stolen from a local store.

A Temple police officer spotted the three juveniles in the golf cart at around 6:45 p.m. Monday in the 1800 block of South 1st Street and pulled them over.

The two juveniles ran.

The officer caught one of them, but the other escaped.

The juvenile in custody was charged with evading arrest, theft over $2,500 and theft over $500.

The two teens shoplifted clothing worth about $500 from the Macy’s store in the Temple Mall sometime between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and then went to Temple College where the stole the golf cart, police said.

The officer who made the arrest spotted the cart before it was reported stolen, police said Wednesday.

The stolen cart was returned to the college and the clothing was taken back to Macy’s, police said.
