ROBINSON (September 20, 2012)-A Robinson police officer who was sent to a fire Thursday morning arrived at the scene only to discover that the house in which the fire was burning was his mother’s.
Robinson police Sgt. Gary Hinson was initially concerned that his mother, Jan Mayer, might still be inside, but it turned out she left the house before the fire started.
No on was injured and damage to the home was minimal.
Fire and police units were sent at around 10:30 a.m. Thursday to the house at 1000 Dayton Drive where they found light smoke coming from the structure.
Robinson police Chief Rusty Smith and Lt. Tracy O'Connor arrived before the fire units and broke a front window but the smoke was too thick for them to get inside.
Officials said the small fire was contained to the front room of the home, but other parts of the house sustained light smoke and water damage.
Fire officials said Mrs. Mayer would be temporarily displaced until the house had been repaired.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
