KILLEEN (April 6, 2014) An Army veteran whom a Killeen police officer shot during a confrontation late Friday morning remained in critical condition Sunday at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, family members said.

Relatives identified the man as Titus Latchison.

Officers were sent at around 11:45 a.m. Friday to a home in the 4500 block of Golden Gate Drive after a caller reported that a man was threatening suicide, Killeen police spokeswoman Carroll Smith said.

As officers tried to talk with the man, he pulled out two knives and began to run at them, Smith said.

One of the officers fired his service weapon and shot the man, she said.

The officer, who wasn’t identified, was placed on administrative leave after the shooting, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

Latchison was taken first to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and was transferred Friday night to Scott & White.
