WACO (February 26, 2013)--Texas Ranger Lt James Scoggins, 50, who is assigned to Waco, was in an El Paso hospital Tuesday after he was seriously injured Monday in a traffic crash in far West Texas.

Scoggins was in stable condition in the intensive care unit of University Hospital in El Paso Tuesday with multiple injuries, said McLennan County Chief Deputy Sheriff Matt Cawthon, a former Texas Ranger.

Scoggins' wife is Sheriff Parnell McNamara’s secretary.

Cawthon spoke by cell phone as he was traveling to El Paso Tuesday morning.

Scoggins and other off duty officers were riding motorcycles in the Chisos Mountains, north of Big Bend, Monday when Scoggins hit something in the road and was thrown over the handlebars of his bike, Cawthon said.

He was flown by helicopter to the El Paso hospital.

Scoggins is the Texas Ranger supervisor assigned to the Waco office.
