WACO (October 1, 2012)-A Waco woman was held Monday in the McLennan County Jail after her two children were found playing unsupervised and without clothes behind a local restaurant.
Kristi Kae Courtney, 24, was ordered held in lieu of $15,000 bond, charged with endangering a child and resisting arrest.
Officers were sent at around 6 p.m. Friday to the 1600 block of South 29th Street in response to a report of the two children.
When they arrived they found the two small children, naked, and playing in an alley behind the Bush's Chicken Restaurant, police said.
As the officers approached the children, the two ran into the street, forcing drivers to swerve to keep from hitting them.
Police reported they had problems catching the two children until a woman who later was identified as their aunt showed up to help.
When the children were safe, the officers went into their house to find what police said were less than desirable living conditions.
They found rotting food, cat urine on the carpet, bugs, bug feces, trash on the counters and discovered that a toilet had fallen through the floor, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Monday.
Officers also reported the children, a boy and a girl both younger than 10, were covered with sores and what appeared to be bug bites.
Officers notified the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, which took the children into custody.
Their mother was arrested at the scene after a struggle with officers, Swanton said.
