WACO (February 18, 2013)—A Waco man was in custody Monday after a woman was injured early Sunday in a fight with her boyfriend following a car chase on Interstate 35.

Chris Dowdy, 26, was ordered held in the McLennan County Jail Monday morning on a $20,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault.

Police were called at around 4:30 a.m. Sunday after the woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries she suffered in the attack.

Officers determined that the chase and the assault happened after a man caught his girlfriend with another man inside a car outside the girlfriend's residence, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Monday.

The woman and the man took off in her car and the boyfriend got in his car and gave chase.

As the two cars raced down Interstate 35 near New Road, the boyfriend began ramming his car into his girlfriend’s car and eventually forced her to stop.

The man who was with the woman ran and has not been located, Swanton said.

The boyfriend beat the woman and forced her into his car, Swanton said.

She was eventually able to call for help, he said.
