Local Woman Injured While Escaping From Burning Home

BRUCEVILLE-EDDY (December 6, 2013) A woman broke her ankle early Friday morning as she ran outside to escape a fire that eventually destroyed the home.

Bruceville-Eddy fire units were sent at around 6:15 a.m. Friday to the house in the 2900 block of Theresa Lane where the first units on the scene reported that the home was engulfed in flames.

High winds and cold temperatures hampered firefighters as they battled the blaze.

Bruceville-Eddy units quickly requested help from fire departments in Lorena and McGregor, but crews were unable to save the home, which was a total loss.

A firefighter said a man in the house woke up to turn on a heater and discovered smoke coming from the ceiling.

He woke his wife and as the couple ran from the home, she slipped on icy ground and broke her ankle, a witness said.

She was taken to a Temple hospital for treatment.

Firefighters still were at the scene as late as 9:30 a.m. mopping up hot spots.
