WACO (June 17, 2013)—Police late Monday afternoon identified a woman who died after firefighters found her severely burned in a bathtub in a North Waco home where a fire was reported as Yanika Nicole Davis, 34.

The fire was out when crews arrived at the house in the 2100 block of North 21st Street at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters found Davis in the bathtub, Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Kerwin said.

She had suffered burns to as much as 50 percent of her body, Kerwin said.

Davis was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and then was transferred to the burn unit of Parkland Hospital in Dallas where she died just after 10 p.m. Sunday, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Police are investigating the incident as a questionable death, but “as of now there are no obvious signs of foul play,” Swanton said.

Kerwin said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
