WOODWAY (January 24, 2012)--A Woodway police officer was taken by ambulance to a local hospital Tuesday morning and a man and a woman were arrested after a traffic stop that led to a foot pursuit during which the officer was injured.
Woodway Public Safety Director Yost Zakhary said the officer injured his knee while trying to chase down a man wanted in two area counties.
Zakhary said the officer stopped a car Tuesday morning on Texas Central Parkway for a traffic violation and as the car came to a stop, a man jumped out and ran.
Officers were able to run the man down within about a mile, Zakhary said.
The man, later identified as Desmond Deshawn Guinyard, 23, of Hillsboro, was wanted on warrants out of McLennan County for possession of a firearm by a felon and out of Hill County on a motion to revoke probation for an earlier robbery conviction.
A woman who was also in the car attempted to get away in the vehicle, but was quickly stopped and arrested, police said.
She was later identified as Sade Monique Harris, 24.
Zakhary said Guinyard was arrested on the outstanding warrants, as well as failure to identify himself as a felon and possession of marijuana.
Harris was arrested for evading arrest in a vehicle and possession of marijuana.
Zakhary said the officer was treated at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and was later released.
He’ll likely return to work within a week, Zakhary said.
