WACO (June 18, 2012)—Griselda Jimenez, 23, was in the McLennan County Jail Monday charged with abandoning a child after her two children were left in the parking lot of Waco’s Richland Mall late Sunday afternoon.

Jimenez was ordered held on a $5,000 bond and also was held on an immigration detainer.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Jimenez and her two children were shopping at the mall when she decided to leave.

Witnesses told police they say the two children run into the parking lot near the Sears store and begin pleading with their mother not to leave them there.

Police said witnesses told them the woman got into her vehicle and left the children standing in the parking lot.

At least one witness followed her to the intersection of North 38th St. and West Waco Drive.

Officers arrested Jimenez there.

The children were not harmed.

Officers called their father who came to pick them up.
