WACO (May 16, 2014) A Waco man who was arrested late Thursday night in connection with a shooting in a North Waco apartment that left two dead was in the process of being released Friday morning after police determined he was the wrong man.
The man was arrested after witnesses told investigators he was the person who shot and killed Justin Javier Gonzalez, 24, and Ulysses Gonzalez, 30.
Their bodies were found early Tuesday morning inside an apartment at the Pecan Tree apartments at 2600 Grim Ave.
The two men were cousins and at least one of them was the target of the deadly shooting, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.
Swanton said detectives have established a solid suspect in the shootings and were working to locate him.
Neither of the victims lived in the apartment, but both were visiting tenants, Swanton said.
They were inside the apartment when one or more suspects entered and gunfire erupted, Swanton said.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
"Investigators believe that the murders were not random and that at least one of the victims was targeted,' Swanton said.
Autopsies were ordered.
