DENVER (September 16, 2012)—James Holmes, 24, who’s accused of opening fire in a suburban Denver movie theater, killing 12 and injuring 58 others, withdrew his application from a Texas A&M University graduate program just before he was scheduled for an on-campus interview, the Denver Post reports.
The newspaper reported the university released several documents Friday in response to an open records request.

Texas A&M was among a number of programs to which Holmes, an aspiring neuroscience graduate student, applied in early 2011 before enrolling at the University of Colorado at Denver.
Holmes' application contains much the same information he submitted to several other universities, including college grades and letters of recommendation.
The letters praised Holmes as an excellent student and impressed A&M faculty enough to invite him for an on-campus visit.
Holmes turned down the offer March 1, 2011, saying he would be pursuing other interests.
