TEMPLE (April 10, 2014) Corey Thomas Williams was held Thursday in the Bell County Jail after he was transferred from Harris County where he was arrested in connection with a robbery and murder at a Temple convenience store.

Bell County Jail records showed Williams was booked in late Wednesday and ordered held in lieu of $750,000 bond, charged with murder in the April 2 shooting death of Mazhar Aslam, 50 of Temple, who was killed during a robbery at Pool's Grocery at 1720 South 1st St.

Williams, 20, lists an address in the 5000 block of Hollyview, in Houston, records showed.

Houston police arrested Williams on April 5 on a warrant stemming from the deadly holdup, in which a second store employee was wounded.

Aslam, the father of five, died at the scene of the shooting, which was reported at around 11:35 pm. on April 2.

Robbery was evidently the motive for the shooting, Temple police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said.

The cash registers in the store appeared to have been moved and an undisclosed amount of money was taken, he said.

Police released a surveillance photograph late Thursday afternoon of the man they thought was responsible for the deadly holdup and it was through surveillance video that investigators were able to identify Williams as a suspect, Wilcox said.
