WACO (March 8, 2013)--A Waco man was held Friday in the McLennan County Jail charged in connection with a shooting at a local bar that police initially believed left a woman with a gunshot wound to the face.

William Glenn Paten, 21, was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $275,000, charged with felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated assault, according to online jail records.

Paten was arrested after detectives investigating the shooting Saturday morning at Big Daddy's Bar, at 701 Park Street, determined that a man who was involved in a fight inside the bar pulled a gun, pointed it at a 19-year-old woman and fired a shot, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Friday.

Officers dispatched to the club weren’t able to find the victim, but a short time later police were notified that the woman was at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where she’d been taken by private vehicle, Swanton said.

Officers determined the woman and her boyfriend got involved in an altercation with several other women at the club.

Police initially believed the shot struck the woman in the face, but a CAT scan later showed that the bullet didn’t hit her and that her injuries didn’t result from a shooting, Swanton said, although the gun was fired.

Paten was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the discharge of the firearm and with felon in possession of a firearm after detectives learned he had previously been convicted of a felony.
