NEW BOSTON (October 27, 2013) Tucker Strickland of Texarkana, who’s charged with capital murder in the 2011 shooting death of a Bowie County sheriff’s deputy, wants his trial moved from Bowie County.
Strickland’s attorneys are seeking a change of venue because of media coverage.
Investigators say Strickland, who originally was charged in an attack on his mother, overpowered Deputy Sherri Jones as she took him to a competency hearing.
Strickland shot Jones with her own gun at a courthouse in New Boston and fled, but was later was caught in Arkansas, prosecutors said.
Strickland, who remains in custody, was found not competent for trial, but in May medical experts determined he was competent.
The change of venue motion was filed Friday.
Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.
