One In Custody After Man Beaten, Robbed In Parking Lot Of Local Bank

WACO (February 3, 2013)—Willie Lee Watson, 54, remained in the McLennan County Jail Sunday charged with aggravated robbery in a violent holdup in the parking lot of a local bank.

His bond was set at $100,000.

The 56-year-old victim, whose name was not released, was attacked and robbed just after 9:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of Compass Bank in the 900 block of Washington Avenue.

Witnesses told officers they saw the robber running south toward Austin Avenue and Watson was arrested in the 900 block of Austin, police said.

Officers recovered the victim’s cell phone, police said.

The robbery victim was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.

His injuries were not life threatening, police said.

Watson is charged with Aggravated Robbery.
