AMARILLO (June 11, 2014) An autopsy was ordered after a man died shortly after Amarillo police detained him following a chase early Wednesday.
Officers placed the man in the back of a patrol car and requested paramedics to check out the suspect, police Lt. Erick Bohannon said.
The man died while paramedics were tending to him Bohannon said.
Police twice pursued the man in a car after officers spotted him acting suspiciously.
The pursuits were called off for safety reasons but officers later spotted the man on foot, chased and captured him.
Potter County Justice of the Peace Gary Jackson ordered the autopsy.
