Man Dies in Interstate Crash

HEWITT (November 17, 2012)--One man is dead after a crash on I-35 Saturday afternoon.

Officials say a truck was stopped on the southbound shoulder of the interstate when a gold Toyota Prius slammed into it near the 325 mile marker.

The driver of the truck was not inside the vehicle because he was waiting for a DPS trooper to finish writing a traffic ticket.

A passenger in the car, 66-year-old James Malek of Georgetown, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic was backed up on the southbound side of Interstate 35 for at least five miles.

The driver of the Prius was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.
