LEAGUE CITY (August 6, 2014) A man wanted in connection with a bank robbery fled from officers and then shot himself after an interstate chase through League City into Houston.
Houston police Wednesday identified the driver as Danny Simmons, 28, of Dickinson.
The chase started Tuesday afternoon after League City officers tried to stop a car that matched the description of a vehicle used in a robbery in Kemah.
The driver led the officers north on Interstate 45 into Houston, calling officers during the chase and threatening to harm himself, League City police said.
Authorities used spike-strips to stop the car after an hour-long chase.
As officers approached the vehicle, they heard a gunshot, police said.
Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.
