WACO (March 4, 2014) A man who climbed onto the roof of a house Tuesday afternoon in South Waco was in custody after he finally climbed down and surrendered.

The man was wanted on several McLennan County misdemeanor warrants, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said.

Officers went to the house in the 1000 block of South 16th Street shortly after 1 p.m. after learning the wanted man was there.

The man was able to get outside the home and climb onto the roof.

He threatened to jump, holding officers at bay for some time before they and relatives were finally able to talk him into coming down.

Edward Victor Ortiz, Jr., 22, was arrested on warrants charging drug possession, criminal mischief over $1,500 and resisting arrest, Swanton said.
