KILLEEN (November 16, 2012)--A man died Thursday night after crashing his motorcycle on a Killeen city street.

Fort Hood Sgt. Brandon L. Martin, 29, of Killeen, was taken from the scene of the accident in the 5300 block of Bridle Drive to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A Killeen police spokeswoman said officers were sent just before 10 p.m. to the scene where they found Martin critically injured, lying in the roadway.

Authorities ordered his body sent to Southwest Institute of Forensic Science, in Dallas, for autopsy.

A preliminary investigation showed Martin was riding his 2003 Yamaha at a high rate of speed southbound on Bridle when he lost control.

The victim was thrown from his motorcycle, rolled on the asphalt, and struck a 2001 Ford Focus that was parked on the east side of the roadway.

His motorcycle continued to slide several feet before striking a flat bed utility trailer that was parked in the 5400 block of Bridle.

Martin was wearing a helmet.

The crash is under investigation.

Martin joined the Army in 2005 and had been assigned since June to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 206th Military Intelligence Battalion.

He deployed to Iraq from October 2008 to September 2009.
