By: Paul J. Gately Email

WACO (August 14, 2012)--A Central Texas man who was forced into a car at gunpoint and robbed escaped from his captors by jumping from the moving vehicle.

The 21-year-old man told officers he was walking in the area of North 27th Street and Mitchell Avenue at around 10:40 p.m. Monday when a black Ford Crown Victoria in which several men were riding pulled up, Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Tuesday.

One of the men in the car pointed a handgun at the victim and forced him to get into the car, Swanton said.

Once inside he was forced to hand over his money.

The victim told police he was able to open the car door and roll out onto the pavement, which left him with some road rash and other minor injuries.

Swanton said the man, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to Providence Health Center after the incident where he was treated for abrasions and bruises.

Swanton said the kidnappers remained at large Tuesday.
