Suspect Killed After Trying To Run Down Off-Duty Officer

HOUSTON (December 29, 2013) An off-duty Prairie View A&M campus police officer who was working security at a drug store shot and killed a man who tried to run him down, Harris County authorities said.

Harris County Sheriff's Office spokesman Thomas Gilliland said the officer, whose name wasn’t released, was forced to shoot Saturday night after a Taser failed to stop the man.

Gilliland said the victim, who name was not immediately released, was known to have written bad checks at the store and struggled with the officer before jumping into his car and trying to run over the officer at the store northwest of Houston.
