WACO (November 1, 2012)--A Waco man pleaded guilty Thursday to selling methamphetamine near a local middle school campus.
U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith, Jr., set sentencing for Michael Edward Salazar for Jan. 3, 2013.
Salazar turned 34 on Thursday.
Court documents presented at Salazar's plea hearing show that on Aug. 24, Waco police drug enforcement officers served a search warrant at a residence in south Waco.
As officers served the warrant they saw a man run from the back of the residence and observed the man throw down what officers believed to be a baggie of methamphetamine.
The man continued to run and jumped a fence where officers caught up with him.
After he was apprehended, officers found $500 in cash in his pockets.
During the search of the residence officers found a small amount of methamphetamine on the kitchen counter top right next to the back door that the man ran out of.
They also located scales and Baggies with the corners torn out of them, lying next to the scales.
Officers also seized a cell phone and observed drug related text messages on it.
The residence searched is within 1000 feet of University Middle School.
