BELLE PLAINE, Kan. (July 26, 2013)—A man wanted in connection with a murder in Texas was in a hospital Friday in Wichita, Kan., with burns and critical injuries suffered in a fiery crash after a high-speed chase in south-central Kansas.
A state trooper spotted the vehicle driven by Anthony Ford, 27, headed south on the turnpike Thursday near Belle Plaine, Kansas Turnpike Authority Lt. John Lehnherr said.
Ford was wanted in the stabbing death of a 23-year-old woman on Sunday in Mansfield.
When troopers tried to stop Ford's vehicle near Wellington, the driver sped off.
The pursuit that followed reached speeds of 110 to 120 miles per hour before Ford's vehicle left the road, flipped onto its top and caught fire.
No one else was hurt.
Ford was under guard Friday at the Wichita hospital.
