METAIRIE, La. (July 14, 2014) A suburban New Orleans man wanted in the murder of his girlfriend, who was found bludgeoned to death in her bathtub, was in custody Monday in Texas.
The three children he disappeared with have been found safe, authorities said.
Pedro Alberto Monterroso-Navas, 43, of Metairie, La., was arrested late Sunday night in a trailer park in Katy, Jefferson Parish sheriff's deputies said in a press release.
He faces a second-degree murder charge.
Col. John Fortunato, a sheriff's office spokesman, says the three children who were with him at the time of his arrest are safe.
Fortunato says two other children went to a neighbor's apartment around 3:35 a.m. Sunday asking for help.
Authorities identified the victim as Heidy Monroy, 24.
Sheriff Newell Normand says deputies found the woman unconscious with head wounds.
She died in her apartment.
