LEON COUNTY (November 24, 2013) The U.S. Marshals Service has joined the search for a Harris County man wanted in the murder of his girlfriend who authorities think may be in Leon County.

Colt Morgan, 29, is charged with murder in the death of Wende Marshall, 44, who was last seen on Oct. 30 and last heard from on Oct. 31, when she called her father to tell him Morgan had asked her to marry him, the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

On Sunday, the Leon County Sheriff's Office said police in Buffalo attempted to question someone matching Morgans description Saturday, but the man ran off.

Marshall’s father reported his daughter missing several days later after the couple failed to show up for dinner, authorities said.

Investigators went to the couple’s home in northwestern Harris County where they found blood on a hallway floor, blood spatter on a blanket on a bed, fresh paint on the walls and human bones in the fireplace, authorities said.

“Investigators think Morgan stabbed Marshall to death after an argument, and then burned her body and buried it in her backyard,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release Friday.

A search of the home turned up human remains, the sheriff’s office said.

Morgan has relatives in the Oakwood area of Leon County and investigators think he was in the Buffalo area last week.

He’s believed to be on foot.

Morgan is 5-foot-10, and weighs 170 pounds.

He may have an injury to his right hand that authorities think was caused by a knife.
