FORT WORTH (February 13, 2013)—The man who crashed his car into a church in Forest Hill, got out, grabbed a guitar and beat the pastor to death, had used drugs before the attack, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office says.

The Rev. Danny Kirk, 53, the brother of longtime Falls County Sheriff Ben Kirk, was killed in October at the Greater Sweethome Missionary Baptist Church.

His attacker, Derrick Anthony Birdow, 33, died after police subdued him with a Taser.

The medial examiner’s office ruled Tuesday Birdow’s death was associated with PCP ingestion.

Forest Hill police Chief Dan Dennis said investigators suspected Birdow was on the hallucinogenic drug because of his behavior.

The medical examiner said the Taser shocks did not contribute to Birdow's death.
