HARKER HEIGHTS (May 8, 2013)—The armed man whom officers found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after a seven-hour standoff Tuesday at a mobile home park in Harker Heights was identified Wednesday as Micah Brumell, 26.

Brumell was a military veteran, police said Wednesday.

Officers found Brumell dead after entering his home just before 6 p.m. Tuesday.

A justice of the peace pronounced him dead at around 6:20 p.m.

The standoff started after officers responded at around 11 a.m. Tuesday to a welfare concern call at the Ancient Oak Mobile Home Park in Harker Heights.

When officers arrived, Brumell refused to come out of his home and started to make threats toward officers and himself.

SWAT and hostage negotiation teams were sent to the park and cleared some surrounding homes as they secured a perimeter and attempted to contact Brumell, who was alone and would communicate only through text messages, police said.
