Family Member Charged In Deaths Of Ex-Central Texas Coach, Wife

BELTON (January 16, 2013)—Darrell Wayne Parker, 42, was jailed Wednesday, charged with one count of capital murder in the shooting deaths of his mother and stepfather, whose bodies were found Tuesday morning in their rural Bell County home.

A second capital murder charge will likely be filed against Parker in the deaths of former high school and middle school coach Chuck Youngblood, 62, and his wife Cathy, 63, authorities said Wednesday.

He's held in lieu of $1 million bond.

Acting on information provided by neighbors, deputies arrested Parker Wednesday at a home in Little River-Academy, where the couple’s missing Chevrolet Trail Blazer was found.

Investigators have not recovered the weapon used in the shootings, authorities said, and no motive has been determined.

Investigators also haven’t determined when the Youngbloods were shot.

They were last seen on Thursday, authorities said.

Parker is cooperating with investigators, authorities said.

Deputies found the bodies Tuesday morning inside the couple's home at 13127 Willow Grove Rd. after responding to request for a welfare check from a Temple Daily Telegram reporter who knew the Youngbloods and was concerned because she hadn’t been able to reach them.

The Youngbloods, who both were shot repeatedly, were pronounced dead at the scene and autopsies were ordered.

Chuck Youngblood was a former head football coach at Evant ISD.

Youngblood also coached at Carver Middle School in Waco from 2003 until January 2009, district spokesman Dale Caffey said Wednesday.

He left Waco to join the Beeville ISD, Caffey said.

From 2000 to 2002 he was a special education teacher in the Belton ISD, the district confirmed Wednesday, and from 2002 to 2003 he worked for the Lorena ISD.

Cathy Youngblood had worked at Texcell Credit Union in Temple for more than 15 years.

Her supervisor, Amy Merriman, remembered her Wednesday as an exceptional person liked and respected by all of the staff.

She was named staff member of the quarter in the second quarter of 2012, Merriman said.
