GAUSE (January 28, 2012)—A brief standoff Friday near Gause ended peacefully after a suspect surrendered to Milam and Burleson county deputies.
Xavier Eugene Bethune, 48, was held Saturday in the Milam County jail.
Milam County Chief Deputy Sheriff Chris White said Milam and Burleson county sheriff’s deputies were sent at about 11:15 a.m. Friday to an address on Milam County Road 358 just south of Gause where a woman reported she had been assaulted by her fiancé.
Burleson County deputies were dispatched initially but when they arrived at the residence they determined the address actually was in Milam County.
As the first deputies to arrive approached the house, they saw a man retreat inside and then heard him refuse to come out.
Milam and Burleson county deputies assisted by a Burleson County-based Department of Public Safety trooper worked together for about an hour before they were able to enter the residence while the man was distracted and take him into custody without further incident.
Bethune was arrested for assault causing bodily injury-family violence and unlawful restraint, both Class A misdemeanors.
