Man Found Dead At Scene Of Knife Fight Died Of Drug Overdose

WACO (September 26, 2011)—Jason Cornett, 36, who was pronounced dead at the scene of a knife fight in September, died not as the result of the head wound he suffered, but instead of a drug overdose, an autopsy report released Tuesday says.

Officers who were sent to a home on Harrison Street in Bellmead in response to a report of a disturbance on Sept. 27, 2010 found Cornett dead and Steve Wilson, 49, of Elm Mott, seriously injured.

Wilson, who was stabbed several times, was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center where he underwent surgery, police said.

The autopsy report released Tuesday says Cornett “died as a result of the toxic effects of methamphetamine.”
