HELOTES (January 12, 2012)--A woman and a man were found shot to death in a church in Helotes in what evidently was a murder and a suicide.

Police in Helotes said the bodies were discovered Wednesday afternoon at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.

The man evidently shot the woman and then killed himself, police said.

Police didn’t disclose information about the relationship between the two.

Lt. Elliott Rodriguez said security cameras recorded the couple approaching the altar, but the motion-sensitive cameras turned off when the pair stopped.

Rodriguez says a handgun was found at the scene.

The man and the woman, who are believed to have been from San Antonio, were alone in the sanctuary at the time of the shootings, police said.
