Medical Helicopter Crash Injures 3 In Texas

EASTLAND (October 1, 2012)—A CareFlite medical helicopter crashed Sunday east of Abilene leaving the pilot and two medics injured.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials say all three were conscious and talking after the crash.

The helicopter was en route Sunday morning to pick up a patient when the pilot tried to divert to a local airport because of limited visibility because of bad weather.

The helicopter crashed about three miles south of Eastland, 56 miles east of Abilene.

Pilot Scott Wallace, 58, of Fort Worth; medic Teresa Campbell, 53, of Granbury, and Rhett Drahen, 34, of Frisco were all taken to an Eastland hospital.

Information about their conditions wasn’t immediately available.

Federal officials are investigating the crash.
