SAN MARCOS (September 13, 2013)--Thirteen members of the Texas State University marching band have been charged with misdemeanor hazing in connection with what campus police described as an initiation involving alcohol.
The 13 students have also been suspended from the band, the university's student affairs vice president, Joanne Smith, said.
The case stems from an incident the on the night of Aug. 31, when campus police found a vehicle parked on campus with several students inside.
After further investigation officers determined that upperclassmen in the band had directed drum-line freshmen to a nearby apartment where they were blindfolded and served alcohol.
Aside from those charged with hazing, two students have been charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and one with giving a false report to a police officer.in a vehicle parked on campus
