IRVING (November 19, 2012)—AAA-Texas predicts that nearly 3.3 million Texans will hit the road over the Thanksgiving holiday period.
AAA-Texas estimates the number of Texans traveling this holiday week will increase 1.6 percent compared to last year.
The association defines the holiday travel period as round trips of 50 miles or more from Wednesday through Sunday.
AAA-Texas spokeswoman Rhonda Wilson says the predicted increase in holiday travel comes at a time when people are feeling more confident this year about the economy.
The travel group's recent survey found that most Texas will be driving to their holiday destinations and half of all travelers intend to shop during the holiday period, especially the Friday after Thanksgiving which is traditionally the busiest shopping day of the year.
