MOUNT PLEASANT (May 6, 2013)—Ruby Zavala, 14, who was the focus of statewide Amber Alert after she, her younger sister and mother were abducted from outside a church, was rescued Monday.

Her 23-year-old ex-boyfriend was arrested, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Wayne Isbell said.

Jesus Ramirez was obsessed with the teenager, whom he had dated secretly, Isbell said.

Police say Ramirez abducted Zavala, her 4-year-old sister and her mother from outside a church Sunday afternoon.

They were driven to a rural home where the mother and sister were freed unharmed.

The vehicle Ramirez was driving was recovered after it crashed just before 5 p.m. Sunday on a county road just west of Mount Pleasant.
