Missing Plane Found In Texas Lake; Pilot's Fate Unclear

JACKSONVILLE (February 9, 2012)--The Civil Air Patrol says a small plane was found Thursday morning in an East Texas Lake and it's believed to be an aircraft that was reported missing.

CAP Lt. Col. Rick Woolfolk said searchers in a boat located the plane at around 5 a.m. Thursday in Lake Palestine.

The fate of the pilot was not immediately clear.

The site is near Berryville.

Woolfolk said sonar was used to find the submerged plane, in about 20 feet of water.

Divers were dispatched to the scene.

Woolfolk says the pilot was alone Wednesday afternoon when he flew from Aero Estates, in the Jacksonville area, to Frankston to refuel and then head home.

A relative reported Wednesday night the plane was overdue.

The pilot's name hasn't been released.
