TEMPLE (March 17, 2014) Temple police confirmed Monday that they are looking into a theft complaint after $180,000 was discovered missing from aTemple Civic Theatre checking account.

"The report has been assigned to an investigator for follow-up and the investigation is ongoing," police Cpl. Christopher Wilcox said in an email to News 10.

The president of the theater’s board of governors, Jody Donaldson, said he filed the complaint last week after learning about the missing funds.

The discrepancy was discovered last month, he said.

Donaldson could not confirm whether any staff or volunteers at the theater were linked to the investigation, but said that procedures have since been put into place to prevent such thefts.

No productions have been canceled, he said, but the theater was already dealing with tight financial times, which prompted the review that led to the discovery of the missing money.

The theater at 2413 South 13th St. was founded in 1965.
