AUSTIN (January 28, 2014) Authorities found more than $155,000 hidden behind the door panels of a vehicle after a traffic stop on Interstate 35 in Austin.
An arrest warrant affidavit shows that the driver told officers he picked the money up in Dallas and was driving to Mexico.
The driver was placed in federal custody on a money laundering charge.
The bundled cash was confiscated.
An Austin police officer pulled the vehicle over for speeding last Wednesday.
Investigators say the man told police he drove his car from South Texas to Dallas, someone picked up the vehicle and returned it to him the next day.
An affidavit says police found the dashboard was cut.
Such alterations can indicate that there’s a hiding place for smuggled items.
