Natural Gas Leak Closes Busy Local Road, Forces Evacuations

Lunch hour traffic was backed up Thursday after a natural gas leak closed down a busy local road and forced some evacuations.

WACO (October 31, 2013) A natural gas leak late Thursday morning backed up lunch hour traffic on Hewitt Drive and forced some evacuations.

The leak was reported at around 11:15 a.m. Thursday at a Texaco station at the intersection of Hewitt Drive and Panther Way.

The southbound lanes of Hewitt Drive were closed to traffic, causing heavy backups.

An insurance company south of the Texaco station was evacuated as a precaution.

Hewitt Police reported the scene was cleared just after 3:00 p.m. Thursday.

No further information about the closure was made available.
