New Athletic Facility Approved, 500-Year-Old Tree Safe

WACO (September 27, 2012) - A 500-year-old tree is safe, but kids will have to walk a little bit further to get to their new athletic complex once it opens.

According to a district spokesperson, the Waco ISD School Board approved a plan to build a new athletic facility Thursday.

The facility will be built down the road from Indian Springs Middle School.

The original plan was to build the facility next to Indian Springs Middle School, but a huge oak tree would have to be cut down to make room for the facility.

Public outcry prompted the district to come up with another plan.

No word on when the facility will be completed.
