Newborn Infant Abandoned Under Carport Of Area Home

CORSICANA (October 29, 2012)—Corsicana police turned to the public for help Monday as they investigated the discovery of an abandoned newborn in the carport of a resident’s home.

The resident, who wasn’t identified, called police just before 9 p.m. Sunday to report finding the newborn baby boy wrapped in a towel and placed in a pillowcase inside a handbag.

The baby was left next to a door under the carport at the home in the 500 block of North 38th Street in Corsicana, police said.

The newborn, who appears to be Hispanic, was alive and the umbilical cord was still attached, police said.

Paramedics took the infant to Navarro Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment and the boy remained in the hospital Monday.

Child Protective Services officials were notified, police said.

Police have notified are law enforcement agencies and hospitals to be on the lookout for a woman or girl who appears to have given birth recently, but who doesn’t have a baby or can’t explain where the baby is.

Police also notified Corsicana Independent School District officials.

Investigators said anyone with information that could them identify the newborn’s mother to call the Corsicana Police Department at (903) 654-4902 or Detective Greg Cloud at (903) 654-4914.
