Interstate Reopens After Multi-Vehicle Crash

LORENA (March 21, 2013)--Traffic was moving again late Thursday morning on northbound Interstate 35 after a traffic accident involving two 18-wheelers and four other vehicles that left traffic at a standstill between Waco and Temple.

Traffic was backed up for about seven miles because of the accident and officials said it may take time to resume a normal flow.

A woman in one of the cars involved in the crash was injured and was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, but further details weren't immediately available.

The fuel tank of one of the 18-wheelers was punctured and about 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled, which crews had to clean up before the highway could be reopened.

One of the 18-wheelers was pulling a car transport trailer and the other was hauling a load of stone.

Until the scene was cleared, authorities directed drivers onto Rosenthal Parkway at exit 322, then north onto U.S. Highway 77 through Robinson into Waco, and then back onto the interstate.
