GALVESTON (May 16, 2014) Charges were pending Friday against a man who was shot by an off-duty Galveston police officer who pulled him over for driving the wrong way on Interstate 45.
The shooting occurred Thursday night between Galveston and Texas City after the officer in his personal vehicle heard a radio call about the wrong-way motorist, Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset said.
After the driver stop, he charged at the officer, who responded by shooting him, Trochesset said.
The wounded man was under guard Friday in a Galveston hospital.
His name and information about his condition weren’t immediately released.
The officer involved in the incident hasn’t been identified.
The wounded man was alert when he was taken to the hospital, Trochesset said.
